There are different data on demography that are present in the locality. However, the data of the National Statistics Office is the most accurate and has more data available. In the inavailability of NSO other data will be used.

Historical Population Growth
Alcantara’s population is continuously increasing but not as fast or rapid compared to other municipalities in the province. It started with a 7,991 population in 1970. By 2010, the population has increased to 15,428. The growth rates do not differ largely, the highest growth rate attained, 2.92%, was observed from 1995 to 2000, while the lowest, 0.13%, was from 2007 to 2010.

Total Population by Barangay
Based from the official data of the National Census and Statistics Office. Municipality of Alcantara has a total population of 15,428 for the year 2010. Of the twelve barangays of the Municipality, Barangay Tugdan has the the highest population of 2,200 followed by Barangay Poblacion with 1,959. The Barangay with the least population is Lawan with only 656 inhabitants.
The Municipality has 2 urban barangays, Poblacion and Tugdan the rest are rural. 26.96 percent of the total population comprises the urban areas with the rest are the rural barangays.
