The Municipality of Alcantara is committed to transforming its natural assets into a sustainable and economically sustained community. The local government aims to leverage its distinct natural beauty and accessibility to ensure long-term growth and create new opportunities for its citizens.

Pillars of Tourism Development

The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Alcantara has identified key strategies to boost the tourism sector, focusing on infrastructure, promotion, and destination improvement:

Destination Improvement	To enhance and improve existing tourist destinations, including the development of its unique beaches, springs, and mountain trails.
Infrastructure & Facilities	To increase support for crucial tourism infrastructure and facilities, while soliciting support from both private developers and national government agencies for their development and improvement. The LGU has specifically focused on enhancing roads, such as the Tablas Circumferential Road, for easier access to tourist spots.
Promotion & Partnership	To collaborate and coordinate with both private and public, national and local agencies for interagency partnership in the effective promotion of Alcantara as a premier tourist destination.

Alcantara’s tourism is built upon a diverse portfolio of unspoiled beaches, mountain views, and natural freshwater sources. The municipality is promoted as a hiking destination for backpackers due to its interior mountains covered in lush tropical rainforest.

Beaches and Coastal Attractions

Aglicay Beach Resort: Alcantara’s most famous attraction, known for its palm-fringed white sand and clear blue waters, offering a complete resort experience.
Binay-we Beach: A secluded small cove featuring fine white sand and calm waters, partially shielded by large boulders.
Tugdan Beach: A wide, pebble-covered shoreline with calm waters.
Calagonsao Beach: A pebble-covered shoreline featuring a cluster of boulders jutting into the sea, which provides a perfect spot for diving.

Nature and Viewpoints

Wall’s View: A scenic viewpoint located a few meters above sea level, offering panoramic views of the sea and mountains, popular among health-conscious enthusiasts for its hiking trails.
Mt. Ope: A destination known to locals for hiking, where visitors can enjoy picturesque landscapes.
D’ Imphire (Imperial Hilltop Resort): Offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the sunrise with Mt. Guiting-Guiting and the serenity of the Sibuyan and Tablas Seas at sunset.

Natural Water Sources

The municipality is dotted with natural freshwater springs, often found in the mountainous areas, providing refreshing and tranquil spots for tourists. These include springs located in Camili, Calagonsao, Bonlao, San Isidro, and Madalag. More notable water attractions include the Alcantara Hot Springs and Mag-Asawang Tubig Hot Spring.

Gateway to Romblon

Alcantara plays a vital role in provincial tourism as it is home to Romblon’s sole domestic airport in Barangay Tugdan. This infrastructure makes Alcantara the most accessible entry point to the entire Tablas Island and the surrounding municipalities, underscoring its potential as a central tourism hub.
